I have never known what it is like to live under a dictator or to live in a land without freedom and I thank God for it. I am grateful for the men and women who have paid the ultimate price so that I can enjoy liberty. I am thankful for all of those who are fighting on foreign soil or waiting to so that we can continue to live in freedom.
However I do know what it is like to live in bondage. I have never been to prison or taken to jail but I have lived with chains and fetters on my soul. I know what it is like to be a slave to sin. I know what it is like to serve my own lust and pleasure seeking flesh. I know what it is like to be sick of my condition for a brief time and make an attempt to turn over a new leaf only to find that the shackles that held me would only let me go so far and then hold me again as captive.
Oh, but praise God I do know what it is like for the King to pardon me, come into my prison cell, break my bonds asunder, set me free, and take me to the palace to sit at His table.
On October 17, 2002 I came to a full realization that I was a hopeless sinner! There was nothing I could do for myself. I was held prisoner to sin and was bound to suffer the wrath of the King whose law I had broken. I could not help myself but I needed a Savior. At once my attention was drawn to the cross of Calvary where the King Himself had taken my punishment to deliver me from His own wrath! King Jesus rescued me by becoming my substitute and now He has brought me into the family and treats me as a son! Oh, what grace! Oh, what love! Oh, what liberty I have in Jesus now! I no longer have to be a slave or captive to sin anymore but I have the freedom to serve the Living God, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
John 8:36
