Power in Preaching

The 2008 Mullins Lectures at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary by Ray Ortlund Jr.

Listen or download
  • In the first lecture he draws from I Corinthians that eloquent speech and wise words actually take away the power of God in our preaching. Make it plain, make it clear, preach Christ crucified is his theme.
  • The second lecture demonstrates the power of God in Paul's ministry to the Thessalonian believers as he cared for them both as a spiritual mother (by nurturing) and a father (by challenging).
  • I found the third lecture the most helpful. It deals with the pastor's suffering. He challenges pastors to take delight in their own weakness by understanding that this is where God chooses to show His power.
