A Prayer for Sunday

O Father,Thank you for the privilege it is to come to the throne of grace. Thank you for the privilege we have to go to your house and meet with your people freely. Thank you for opening our eyes to your truth and giving us new desires in Jesus Christ. Thank you for your law that is our schoolmaster; that reveals to us our impotence and points us to our Savior! Thank you for not withholding your Son but freely giving Him up for us all to bear in His own body on the tree the wrath of God for our sins! Thank you Lord for giving your back to the smiters and bearing our sin! Thank you for taking the chastisement of our peace upon yourself. Thank you for willing to be despised and rejected of men! Thank you for willing to be esteemed stricken, and smitten of God! Thank you for being made a curse; for being made sin for us that we might have your righteousness! Thank you for the promise we have of seeing your lovely face in glory!
O God, we ask that you have your way today when your people gather for worship and instruction. Draw us closer through your precious Word. Give to others the mercy that we received. Open the blinded eyes, quicken the dead souls. Spirit of Light, show others the Savior and scatter their night. Shed abroad your love in the hearts of your own and cause us to love you more than any other. Let us put down our broken cisterns that can hold no water and drink from the fountain of living water.
We know there are those with broken hearts and troubled spirits. Make it known to them that you are their Great High Priest Who is touched with the feelings of their infirmities. Call home the prodigals. Grant faith in the life of the troubled. Let us welcome our trials knowing they will work for your glory and our good. Continue to call your elect from every corner of the earth, from every kindred, tongue, people, and nation. May your kingdom advance because you have all power and authority in Heaven and earth.
Let your men preach with passion. Help them to rightly divide the Word of Truth and share it with those who have ears to hear! Let them proclaim Christ and Him crucified. Let them preach like dying men to dying people! Help them to sound the trumpet, cry aloud and spare not! Give them courage to stand in this hour and honor your Word! May it be the power of God unto salvation to them that believe. May you be worshiped in Spirit and in truth. May we adore you the only one worthy of adoration and praise.
In Jesus name and for His sake,
Amen
